Is Language a Barrier to Africa?

Unlike the Europeans and Americans that have a unifying language that is spoken across a vast geographical location, Africa is laced with many languages. While this is part of our culture and contributes in no small way to the beauty of our continent, it however serves as deterrent to communication among the peoples of Africa. Do you think that this impedes development?

in a large sense it is.just like tribalism, language difference promotes diversity…the diversity language brings goes back to ancient times in the bible(tower of babel),it hinders unity and brings about desputes.
