Unlike his European or American counterpart, an African is faced with a dilemma consciously and unconsciously about where his first allegiance lies. Does his first allegiance lie with his tribe, his state/province, his country or with Africa? It is easy to talk about Africa and its opportunities of becoming a continent to contend with others in global affairs, but with little or no patriotism we can achieve nothing.
We must realise that we are one people first and that these countries are artificial boundaries that the white man created to keep us divided. When we understand that, we will be able to see clearly that we are Africans first and any other thing second.
